Chocolate has a facial wound

Met the owner on my way back from cat-sitting. He said the cat has been fighting again.. how much is the powder? I said never mind I have some… He insisted I take $20.- Is it serious? I asked. No, no…not serious!

Passed by the mamak shop to check… looks quite bad! Chocolate is not the friendliest… he cannot be pilled! Gave him some wet food with antibiotics mixed in… and quickly dabbed some powder on the wound!

I’ll send him to SPCA!

Met Chocolate’s owner and he said that he is going to send Chocolate to SPCA because he is going on holiday for 2 months. When I told him that this will most likely be the end for Chocolate … he looked unbelieving and said “Killed ahh?… Then I give you food and you feed him for me”.

Chocolate has been abandoned

Heard that his owner has stopped feeding him and asked his customers at the Mamak Shop block *19 whether they want to take him. Poor Chocolate was so hungry and finished up 2 plate-fulls.

The E-collar had to be removed as the owner had stopped taking him home at night…

By the way, I just found out that this type of breed is actually called “Chocolate Burmese”.

6 teeth extracted

Nushi was wide awake when I picked her up.

She pawed at her mouth a bit but then settled down to rest. I would normally have caged her for a day or two but all the cages are occupied so she is now in her favourite hiding spot under the bed. A big thank you to E for sponsoring Nushi’s dental work!

So relieved that it is finally over and done…

Had a look at Choc on my way back. He looks good but there are still some scabs. Will probably take the collar off and remove the stitches in a few days time.

Snoopy is improving … able to get up more easily now. Hopefully she will make a full recover soon and can be released. But Snoopy is not complaining, contented being in her cage… a very sweet cat!

Choco had to be stitched again

The owner called saying that the stitches had come undone…

Brought Choc back to the vet to be stitched up again and also borrowed a big cage from M. Choc’s owner is willing to keep him at home in the cage until the wound has healed. I know that he actually is quite fond of Jumpok… he just dislikes spending money on him. Anyway, he did reimburse me almost the full amount for the second stitching… the vet had also kindly given a good discount.

So hopefully all goes well now…told owner to keep Choc in the carrier over night as he is still drowsy and not to give him any food or water until morning.

Chocolate injured

Received sms from M “Noticed a big bleeding wound at right stomach of Choc. Notified his Indian shop-keeper owner. Just hope she will do something.” M had also noticed that choc had been missing for about 5 days.

Sadly, I have reason to doubt that they would bother bringing Choc to the vet.

Went down with a carrier to lent them but made it clear that I would not be bringing him as they had refused to refund me when I had Chocolate treated for urinary blockage 2 years ago… and had also refused to change his diet.

The wife phoned the husband and after I made some noise he agreed to bring Choco (he calls him Jumpok) to the vet. Later the vet called to say that he did not even get to see the cat as the owner told the clinic staff that all he would be willing to pay was $50,- and to just give him some powder to apply… sigh!

I went back to the shop to collect my carrier and also gave Choco food mixed with antibiotics. I voiced my frustration and anger even in front of his customers… told him what is the point of going for pilgrimage (His family went last year) if he is not willing to provide the necessary veterinary treatment for his cat! Allah would surely see his actions! I also threatened to inform the SPCA…

Finally he asked me to bring the cat to the vet and that he would join me there in 10 mins (waiting for his wife to come down take over the shop). When I said I would rather wait for him… he gave me $60.-. Of course he didn’t turn up… the wife cooking…lah!

Decided to go ahead with the surgery to stitch up the wound. When I asked the owner wether he could take Choco home to let him recuperate, he said he could not, because he scratches the sofa… but maybe he would take him home at night.

I requested not to put E-collar on Choco as he will be out and may get hit by a car if he can’t see properly… or may get stuck somewhere. Just hope that he will be good and leave the stitches alone!

Going to collect him now…

Dumy, Chocolate, Jacky

Lucky Dumy will be going to a foster home and have a chance for adoption. R found him and brought him in and Q lend me her cage. Dumy’s “brother” Damy has also be sighted and Q fed him some kibbles… He had earlier escaped from Q’s home. Hope he will stay around to be fed and get better…

Chocolate’s owner is closing his shop for 2 weeks and I will feed him every evening. Someone else will be feeding him in the mornings.

I was very surprised that Jacky let me stroke him today… for the first time ever! Does he know that I only trapped him in order to bring him back and is showing his gratitude?

The family of 4 and Prince have moved from their previous feeding place because of King. This newcomer really acts like he is the King of the place and all the other cats seem scared of him.

Chocolate aka Jampok seems to have lost his appetite again. The shop owner who looks after him said this happens every 2 weeks. At least he is feeding him with Fussy Cat now instead of Whiskas.

Gave Chocolate some vitamin C and Gold Coin Grass infusion. Then tried to feel his bladder but couldn’t find it …he was struggling a lot.

Chocolate is eating

Took Chocolate back this morning after he had a second injection of antibiotics. He peed at the vet once and then again in the carrier, but still refused to eat. His fur looks very dull and he is also shedding a lot. Back at the shop he reluctantly sniffed at the Fancy Feast flaked fish but then slowly started eating and finished it all up and also took his medication (to improve appetite) without much struggle J

Update on chocolate

Chocolate has an enlarged bladder a slight temperature and is also a little dehydrated…maybe there is a blockage. He was hospitalized for observation. The vet estimated Chocolate to be about 4 or 5 years old.

Chocolate is not eating…

Chocolate has been adopted by the mamak shop, where Patches used to be before she was cat-napped. They call him Jumpok. He has not been eating for several days, except for a little bit of chicken breast yesterday. I did force-feed him with nutri-gel and chicken soup, but it’s very difficult…he struggles and I am not feeling very brave.
Brought him in today to observe and check for any wound…but he doesn’t like to be confined. I don’t think I can touch him now…will probably have to bring him to the vet tomorrow.

5 more cats sterilised

Shasha was sterilised at AMK and everything went well. Her ear was not tipped because we are keeping her as an indoor cat.

Little Garfield was successfully trapped and also sterilised at AMK, using a SPCA voucher for her.

4 more cats were scheduled to be sterilised under CWS on Nov. 18. I followed the Pet Taxi to the clinic at Serangoon and had the opportunity to be present during the operations. Quite scary….the part where I had to take the cats out of their carriers and hold them down for the injections.

One of the 4 male cats is Clover. He has a broken leg. It’s an old injury, one front paw is bent back. The good news is that Clover doesn’t need to have his leg amputated. The vet said the tissue looks healthy and that in time a thick layer of skin will form for protection. He has been done and is doing well but needs a 10 day course of antibiotics and cream for his leg. Poor Clover has to stay in the pet carrier for the time being as I have run out of cages and he is the smallest of the cats. I am trying to get another second-hand cage and Anna offered to pay for it as Clover is “her cat”. I will probably have to keep him for at least 2 weeks.

The giant ginger cat “Leo” was also done and put on antibiotics. He is really huge and muscular and has very big cheeks. The Vet suspects swollen glands due to some infection or disease. His nose started bleeding during the operation but it stopped after a while and he recovered well. Leo is an older cat.

The Burmese named Chocolate was the only one without problems, but he was also the fiercest. I released him at 1 am as I had only a small pet carrier left for him and he was not happy, refusing to eat. Checked on him yesterday night and he is doing fine and eating well.

The Siamese “Shadow” is a big cat and a big headache for me. He could not be done as he had quite a bad wound at his armpit. I have no problem giving him the antibiotics mixed with food but I can’t manage to clean the wound and apply the antibiotic powder. He bites and scratches without warning. Purring one moment and then snapping at my hand. Really don’t know what to do. He also sneezes, hope he is not coming down with cat flu… Tried again today, a quick splash, dab and powder… but the aiming was a little off. Will try again tomorrow…

Crystal will be next. I have made an appointment for 2nd Dec. She is probably pregnant and will need to have an abortion.

Right now I have 9 cats in the house and may have to take in Little Garfield on Monday, so that she can rest a little longer… I prefer to keep the females in for 6 to 7 days after sterilisation.
