Genie now

Time flies . More than half a year has flown by since Genie was found severely injured at the foot of a block .

This feisty one has since recovered well , though not 100% her before self , but much better and has become quite a rascal . Keeps popping by upstairs to the bedrooms where she shudn’t be ‘coz of the dog . But her persistence and her being able to not attack the dog has won us over and let her do wat she wants . Aka spoilt brat and baby of the house . -_-‘ Till the other cats and the dog gets jealous .

Anyhow , Genie wants to thank again all kind donors who loved her and made generous donations when she was in her ill state . She remembers all of U in her heart and wishes the best of health to all of U . And she wants everyone to see how contented she is , now that she’s no more a community cat . Pictures show her roosting comfortably on my bed . Haha . Very manja also , but very lovable .

Hope all cats are lucky like Genie and find good homes . 😀

Genie in the hammock

Found Genie in the hammock yesterday…no idea how she went up. We had not removed the 2 hammocks because we were so sure that she wouldn’t be able to climb up.

Later I placed the box there to help her climb down.Genie went up and down several times and also changed from one hammock to the other… although she still can’t walk properly (crawling with body touching the ground). I think this is good exercise to get back her strength.

Genie went home with Maxiejane this afternoon. She is now in a slightly smaller cage but also with hammock. Genie will be transferred to a big double-storey cage, once she is stronger…

Genie discharged today

Genie was no longer on drip so I thought might as well nurse her at home where she will be more comfortable. The only medication that she is taking now is antibiotics. We will bring her back for review on Friday and then decide regarding the acupuncture treatment. Dr. Oh thinks that he can help her and also do something for the liver.

Genie still needs to be syringe fed. No special diet required so I give her Avoderm. Maxiejane will make fish and chicken soup for her. She cannot get up but manages to turn herself from one side to the other. We also noticed that she curls the right her hind paw when stretching her left leg. Ranztan suggested giving her B complex and I am thinking that adding a little

liver would be good for her as she is also anemic…

Update on Genie

More bad news… her right side is paralyzed.

Maxiejane visited Genie in the afternoon and I went in the evening. If I understood correctly, she had another visitor in the morning.

The hospital bill so far is $ 400 plus…. If anyone would like to sponsor part of Genie’s medical expenses, please send a cheque directly to Mt. Pleasant Animal Hospital 232 Whitley Road S-297824.

The vet says that she won’t fully recover and since nothing much can be done for her at the hospital we will probably take her home after the weekend. I will ask Dr. Oh if acupuncture could help her…

Genie hospitalized

Maxijane found her this morning, bleeding and unable to move, and they quickly sent her to the hospital. The vet says that she has head injuries and a 50% chance of recovery.

She can move but can’t get up and seems not fully conscious. One of her pupils is dilated.

I syringe-fed her and was surprised that she eagerly ate about 30ml of food. Both sides of her tongue were dark red and there was also blood at her chin and a small wound at the hind leg.

We suspect that she had fallen from the 4th floor as we found some food there. Could she have been thrown down or did she manage to crawl to spot where she was found?

Joy turns to sorrow…

…it was indeed very short-lived.

Bad news from Genie & Silver’s adopter.

Yesterday’s update –

Hi Helga,
Thought you’ll appreciate some updates. Genie settled in beautifully.
She ate half a packet of Nutro wet food and she has been following me
around a lot. She comes when called and ate some pau which my daughter
dropped on the floor accidentally. She seems to like pau :). Silver is
a little bit suspicious and does not like my girl near her. Will hiss
and spit if she comes near and generally avoids her. She is okay with
me though. Maybe she had a bad experience with kids. They have been
grooming and grooming the whole time.

Well, that’s all for now really :). It’s only been a couple of hours.

Hi Helga,
It’s looking a lot like Silver is going to be my husband’s cat. She
really takes to him :). Yeah, she’s still gentle, just scared. Thanks
for doing the wonderful work of feeding the strays etc.
Warmest regards.

Today’s update –

Dearest Helga,
I may have to give Silver and Genie up again.

My mother-in-law, who comes to our home in the weekends to stay is
terrified of cats. She did not tell us earlier even though she knew
about it. Now that the cats are really here, she has made it quite
clear she wants them to go. Both my husband and I are upset and it is
our home but she has been crying and making a big fuss, like emotional
blackmail. I don’t know why she bothers, she is never there anyway.

I will keep them until I find owners for them. Pls let me know if you
know people who want to adopt cats. So, if you see them posted on the
Cat Welfare site again, you know what is happening.

I may try to keep them at my mother’s home though. I have grown quite
attached to Genie and will be really sorry to let her go. I’ll update
you okay?

Warmest regards

I asked J to return Silver & Genie if they can’t keep them

Jasper is going home, too…

The couple, knowledgeable cat-guardians who also adopted their first cat through CWS, liked what they saw and confirmed that they would be taking Jasper home.

M and R came over with some steamed fish for Genie and gang and they all had a feast.

My friend E also visited me for the first time since I have the cats…as expected, she reacted allergic (sneezing and watery eyes) and couldn’t stay long. E offered to sponsor Sophia’s stay at a foster facility…and I will make some enquiries. She really liked Sophia and is even considering adoption…if her husband is agreeable and her allergy manageable.

Silver & Genie going home…

…with a nice lady and her young daughter who visited them on Sunday. I am so happy for them! A home with caring people and wire-meshed windows…safe from dogs, cars and abuse. What more can a cat ask for J

Update on the sick cats…

Genie has not been seen since Sunday, so I called AVA and SPCA and printed posters today. Then went down to put up the posters and found her at the void deck of *24 area 1. She greeted me with two sneezes.

Orange Boy seems to be the worst effected now. Have quarantined him in my room. He feels a bit warm, sneezes a lot now and breathes with his mouth open…didn’t touch his dinner.

Searched a long time for the injured black kitten yesterday…but couldn’t find him. Sylvia saw him the day before, cleaned the wound and applied powder.

Sylvia first noticed the little white dots on Fighter’s fur. I looked closely and saw they were nits. At least now I know what to do…will apply the Spot-on tomorrow.

Medicated oil on Genie

M saw Genie this morning, her wounds were raw looking and there was a smell of medicated oil. I took her in and have washed the wounds and applied powder. I think someone put the Chinese nutmeg oil on her wounds… R suggested to feed her lots of water to dilute and get the stuff out of her system. Will have to keep her in until the wounds are completely healed…so that this person will not put the medicated oil on her again.

Attacked by a dog

Our little Genie girl was attacked by a dog at blk *24 Area 1.

I actually heard the dog and was thinking of Genie but then didn’t go down to check on her. Later at night I searched many times but couldn’t find her.

The next day received sms from M that Genie had several bite wounds. M suspected Rocky but these are definitely not wounds from a catfight. Someone let his or her dog attack her! It sounded like a small or medium-sized dog. The dog must have tried to nibble and pull off patches of hair. Genie has 7 wounds on one side of her body (2 on the hind leg and one behind the ear). I am applying antibiotic powder and the wounds are healing well. Will be able to release her back soon.

Stitches and Genie sterilized

Stitches is a newcomer at *14 area 2 and also Little Gey’s new friend. He must have gotten into a fight and ended up needing stitches on his face and at the base of his tail. The wounds were quite big but not infected. Have to keep him in for 10 days after which the stitches will be removed. He was also sterilized at the same time.

Genie is a new abandonee. From 2 blocks away she has now moved to *24 area 1 and surprisingly making friends with Rocky. Rocky has taken over *23/*24 as his new territory, chasing every other cat away, except for Genie.
