Orange Boy home

They had to attach the catheter again as OB was not peeing. He doesn’t like to be caged… but no choice as urine is constantly dripping from the catheter. I let him out for a short while and he went straight to the (well-used) scratching post. The vet says he needs to be on prescription diet for at least 6 months to change the pH. Luckily he likes the dry version.

Hospitalised until Tuesday

Dr. G informed me that they couldn’t do the stitching today as the skin was too tight… Dr. Choi will stitch him up on Tuesday and Darly needs to be hospitalised until then… but they will still cap the bill for the final stitching at $400.-

On vet’s request LK made some jackets for the hospital. I think Darly is now the first one using it. Lk has made some improvements to her design.

Darly hospitalized again

The 3 wounds had been shrinking a but there are problems with the stitched parts. Darly bit the stitches on the upper part of his body… before I made him wear the E-collar. The stitches on the lower part have become infected, probably because of his licking as that part was not covered by bandage. The vet is going to open it up again… sigh!

Tomorrow I will be going to Mt Pleasant and to Jireh Vet again… hoping that Darly and Orange Boy or at least one of them can be discharged.

OB had to be transferred to Jireh Vets

Dr Kong called me this morning, the catheter came out and he was unable to insert it again… advised to transfer OB to Jireh for surgery.

Dr Tham explained that there was an abnormal narrow part in OB’s urinary tract making it difficult to insert the regular catheter. He had to use a special Teflon-coated catheter. Also the tip of his penis was necrotic and had to be removed. X-ray showed no stones and blood test was normal… probably the stones had already been passed out earlier. OB will have to be hospitalised for at least 3 days.

Orange Boy catheterized

Orange Boy is hospitalized at Acacia. He didn’t eat on his own but took some syringed wet food. His tummy looks bloated to me… will ask the vet tomorrow.

Naughty Darly!

Some of the stitches came undone and bandage was chewed… so Darly has to wear the E-collar! Seems the wound has shrunk a little…

Giving Darly Propolis with flax-seed oil and Appelin every day. Nushi and Stoney get the same cocktail. Stoney also still has to wear the E-collar. Maybe the rash is not healing because every day I remove the collar for some time to let him do his grooming? Stoney has just completed another course of antibiotics, pred and a different cream.

Dark Tuna

The dark meat of tuna is known to contain high levels of mercury! I always remove these bits …but lately there are huge chunks of it. Time to boycott!!!

Exploring

Lucky Star Darly is exploring for the first time…and started ripping off his bandage. His jacket has been washed and is now drying in front of the fan. Will have to put it back on before going to sleep…

Strangely, when caged he seems to leave the bandage alone.

Update on Darly aka Lucky Star

When I told LK that another $600,- came in she said “You must keep him and change his name to Lucky Star!” It’s really amazing… first that he can survive this terrible infection and then that people come forward to sponsor without me having asked anyone personally for help or having tagged facebook friends. I even had reservations of putting out a CWS appeal… but in the end no choice!

Now it looks like most of the vet bill can be covered… sigh of relief! The bills can be seen at the CWS Appeal for Darly http://www.catwelfare.org/node/4036 The latest bill will be scanned soon.

The latest bill for partial stitching is $665.- after a special discount. There is still an opening about the size of my palm. Will try to do the bandaging on my own now and LK thinks that the Propolis will make the wound heal on its own… so hopefully no need to pay another $400 for the final stitching. Lucky Star Darly is a little listless today and has poor appetite… but this is probably the aftereffect of the GA

I wonder why he is now given antibiotics, painkiller and iron tablets? After his first discharge he did not have to take any medication!

Update on sponsorship:

$600,- were sponsored by a different E and $100,- by S

Darly has been stitched

Shocked… another bill of $700.- and a final $400,- expected for closing the wound completely in about 10 days time! An estimate of $2.000,- turns out to be around $4.000.- at the end!

Me feeling sick and very tired… flu and high fever. Luckily my daughter was around to help with feeding and clearing litter trays this evening. Went to bed at 10pm yesterday but gave up trying to sleep at 3am and slowly did all the work that needed to be done…. then lied down for 2 hours before picking up Darly from hospital.

The cat-phobic resident at *27 is still complaining about cats are coming up… despite the moth balls and vinegar. Neighbours I spoke to said no-one is feeding upstairs- I don’t know what else to do!

And another broken toe…

Darly in a blue cocoon today. I guess he must feel hot with all that bandaging so I keep the fan on him all the time.

Last year I broke my second toe. It healed on it’s own.. just a little crooked now. Walking was painful for a long time. Today I broke my little toe…it sticked out sideways. Hope the tape will keep it in normal position.

Darly’s Angel

Lk was also worried and couldn’t sleep so she made this nice dress for Darly to keep the bandage in place. It has an elastic neck band and velcro closings. She used her own cat for measurements 🙂

Nicely wrapped…

…but too loose!

Darly slipped out of his cocoon within two hours after I brought him back. Not possible for me alone to bandage him… so I went to AAVC.

A short while later the new bandage moved to expose a gaping hole on his belly near his genitals. Managed to place another Melolin pad over it and bandage it but not sure how long this will stay in place. How can I do this when even the technicians can’t do it well? LK advised me to bring Darly back to hospital…

Something is not right

Darly is unable to get up because something is not right with his right front leg! The vet who was in charge of Darly today said that Dr. Dennis Choi will have a look at it tomorrow.

A good friend ‘E’ sponsored $300,- today towards Darly’s huge medical bill. LK also called with the good news that she had collected another $700 from her friends! A big thanks to everyone who chipped in!

Darly is still happy and playful and eating well. The wound is healing well!

Update on Darly

The vet says Darly is doing well. She stitched part of the wound .There are still large open parts but they look a healthy red… no more greenish-yellowish stuff. The bad news is that the bill is already over $2000,- (before discount) and she won’t let me take him home… not for another week…sigh!
