Ike & Oki bad news

Ike and Oki developed a skin problem shortly after the second time I used Selsun to bathe them. There was black stuff all over Ike’s legs and under his chin. It is more difficult to see this on Oki but I felt the roughness under his chin… so I knew he was also affected.

I applied some some Frontline on Ike’s legs… thinking he might have picked up some mites during the time he was lost outside. By the next day it had spread to more parts of Ike’s body and he also felt hot.

Brought them both to the vet who confirmed that Ike had a high temperature. No sign of mites and no fungus was detected under the light. The vet couldn’t tell what it was. The technician then examined a sample under the microscope and said it was fungus. I was advised to continue bathing with Malaseb and also to apply Frontline and see a skin specialist in Clementi if it does not improve. I bought both but then decided not to apply the Frontline until they are better and just continue the bathing.

When the vet examined Oki he found that he has a heart problem…. and seems there is nothing that can be done about it. Sterilization would be risky….

Both are still eating and Ike looks a bit livelier today. I think the fever went down.

Ike has been found

… with the help of M and her sharp ears!

At about 11pm I seemed to hear a soft meow but could not hear it anymore when I went downstairs, so I thought must have imagined it. Then I saw M downstairs. She had also heard the soft cries. We decided to start the search at the top floor of the neighbouring Block. I had actually searched there before but only the lower corridors.

When we reached the top floor we heard him and there he was…hiding near the gap in the wall. I quickly scooped him up! He could have fallen… Ike is not the smartest! Earlier when I had observed him downstairs at one time he was lying next to the shallow drain then he suddenly rolled over and dropped into the drain.

Ike and Oki have been transferred to a big cage. Found this cage downstairs one of the nights when I was watching them. It looked unused and was nicely folded and tied up… unlikely to be linked to any abandonment.

Gave Ike a bath with Selsun and it seems to be more effective then the Malaseb Shampoo from the vet. I was a bit worried using this medicated shampoo which is meant for humans but it was ok… no foaming at the mouth or vomiting. Will use it again for both Ike and Oki in 2 days time to make sure the ringworm is totally gone… and not spreading to the other cats.

Please note that I do not recommend the use of Selsun on cats! Both kittens developed a skin problem and fever shortly after the 2nd bath with Selsun. Of course I can’t be sure that there is a connection… but it seems likely!

The feeder saw the Chinese man who is known to her.

Two caregivers from other areas went down to check on the cat and to persuade the feeder to make a police report…. she refused! Her logic “If I report then he will beat more cats!?.

The cat was a newly abandoned white-and-tabby. It later went into hiding.

The feeder says that the Chinese man who lives at Block 800 wanted to stroke the cat and was scratched. He then beat the cat repeatedly using a drink can. He hit the cat so hard that the can was flattened! According to the feeder a women walking by with her son remarked “This cat so stupid, let the man beat… why don’t run away!?

Perhaps the abuser is of unsound mind… but what I don’t understand is WHY DID THE FEEDER AND THE WOMAN WHO PASSED BY DO NOTHING TO STOP HIM !!!

Batman has kidney problems

Old photo of Fighter

Ah Eng took him to the vet and had tests done. Her niece called me today to ask for advice. He is not eating and has lost much weight. Poo only every 4 or 5 days.

Fighter was Billy Boys arch-enemy 5 years ago… but later they became friends.

Ah Eng calls him Batman. I advised her to syringe-feed 1/2 can Avoderm morning and night and to give honey or lactulose for the constipation.

May need x-ray and further testing

Thor put up a struggle but the vet somehow managed to check his mouth… sore gums but no fish bone. The vet gave him 3 injections (including antibiotics and advised to go for x-ray and further testing if there is no improvement in 2 days.

Fish bone again?

This male appeared at the same time as Fifi. He has not been eating for 3 days. I suspect fish bone. He is at the same block as Beauty who had 4 fish bones removed from her throat! He has not been named and sterilized yet…

Lala went to her new home today.

Brought Oki downstairs today for a while… where he met Fifi, Coco and Jumpy.
